The Agricultural Engineering Research Institute (AEnRI) was established in 1983 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation under the auspices of the Agricultural research Center. From 1983 to 1992, it was known as the Agricultural Mechanization Research Institute.
In order to broaden its scope, the name was changed to the Agricultural Engineering Research Institute in 1992. AEnEI has been organized into several research departments and also has two centers for tractor and machinery testing services and rice mechanization center.
The main objective of AENRI is to assist in increasing agricultural production by inrtroducing appropriate mechanization technologies to end users with special focus on small and medium size farms. Efforts towards achieving this objective have been concentrated in the following areas: 1 - Conducting applied research to encourage mechanized farm operations. 2 - Developing appropriate mechanization technologies and machines for local conditions. 3 - Transferring appropriate mechaniazation technologies to farmers. 4 - Promoting local production of machinery. 5 - Conducting on-farm irrigation research to optimize water use. 6 - Providing technical advice and consultancies to farmers and machinery manufacturers.
