The Centro de Investigación y Tecnología Agroalimentaria de Aragón (CITA: Agrifood Research and Technology Centre of Aragon) is a public centre devoted to research, development and technology transfer, as well as to advising and offering its services to the agro-food sector.
The origins of the current Centre for Research and Agro-Food Technology in Aragon (CITA) date from 1964, with the Centre for Research and Agricultural Development of the river Ebro (CIDADE), supported by the then Ministery of Agriculture. In 1970, after the restructuring of the National Institute for Agronomic Research (INIA), this centre became the Regional Centre for Agricultural Research and Development (CRIDA 03) with powers within the competence of Aragón, Navarra, País Vasco and La Rioja. In 1984 these competences were transferred to the Regional Government of Aragon and, thus, the Agro-food Research Service (SIA), dependent of the Departament of Agriculture, was created. In 2002, following the new current agro-food trends, the CITA was born, in order to cover new research areas and to enhance technology transfer to the production sector, adopting a strategy of research, development and technological innovation (R+D+I).

The Centre for Research and Agro-Food Technology in Aragon (CITA), was created by regulation 29/2002 on 17th December 2002. It is a public body under the Department of Science, Technology and University of the Regional Government of Aragón, devoted to research, development and technology transfer, as well as to offering advice and services to the public, through environmentally respectful technologies. MissionThe CITA’s mission is to provide the agricultural and food sectors with the materials and technologies necessary to increase their competitivity and sustainability, generating the scientific and technical information which will help establish agricultural systems which are competitive, efficient and sustainable, both socially and environmentally. This mission extends, therefore, to high quality scientific research, with scientific and workforce staff training, cooperation with the private sector and public bodies, within a framework of action and diffusion of the results.
