The National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State - Sernanp  is a public agency attached to the Ministry of the Environment since May 2008. Its mission is to ensure the conservation of the country's Protected Natural Areas, its biological diversity and the maintenance of its services Environmental impacts. To achieve this, it has developed international cooperation projects and agreements with civil society and various institutions. The Sernanp is the governing body of the National System of Protected Natural Areas (SINANPE) and as a technical-regulatory authority carries out its work in coordination with regional governments, local and property owners recognized as private conservation areas.

The mission of the Sernanp is to lead the System of Protected Natural Areas of Peru with an ecosystemic perspective, integral and participatory, with the aim of sustainably managing its biological diversity and maintaining the ecosystem services that provide benefits to society.
