Shanghai Veterinary Research Institute (SHVRI), formerly Shanghai Institute of Domestic Animal Parasitology, is a national research institute that specializes in researches on major swine and avian infectious diseases, animal parasitic diseases, zoonosis and anti-parasite drug, with special focus on etiological biology, molecular epidemiology, pathogenesis and immunologic mechanism of pathogens as well as applied research on diagnosis, prevention and control technologies of animal diseases. It is also oriented to the research and development of new type of safe and efficient animal vaccines, therapeutic drugs, new preparations, as well as fast and convenient diagnosis technologies of epidemic diseases and the new preparations, thus technically promoting the development of husbandry and human health. SHVRI also serves as a branch of the China Animal Health and Epidemiology Center. Several laboratories in the Institute were named as leading laboratories by different authorities, such as National Laboratory of Animal Shistosomiasis Prevention and Control, Key Laboratory of Animal Parasitology of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal-borne Food Safety Research Center of CAAS, and Key Open Laboratory of Veterinary Drugs Safety Evaluation and Residue Research of CAAS. SHVRI hosts an academic journal Chinese Journal of Animal Infectious Diseases.
