The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is responsible for food safety and food hygiene across the UK. It works with local authorities to enforce food safety regulations and its staff work in UK meat plants to check the standards are being met. The FSA also has responsibility for labelling policy in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and for nutrition policy in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Responsibility for nutrition policy in Wales lies with the Welsh Government. FSA is a non-ministerial department, supported by 7 agencies and public bodies.

The Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA) serves the environmental science community through four data centres, data analysis environments, and participation in a host of relevant research projects. CEDA was formed when two of NERC's data centres, the BADC and NEODC merged. CEDA aims to support environmental science, further environmental data archival practices, and develop and deploy new technologies to enhance access to data. Additionally we provide services to aid large scale data analysis.
SAMS is governed by an independent non-executive Governing Council, led by the Chair, supported by a number of sub-committees. Our commercial subsidiary company SAMS Research Services Limited is governed by its own Board. Governing Council members are the non-executive directors of the company and trustees of the charity.
Ultimate legal responsibility for SAMS' operations rests with the Governing Council. The Governing Council appoints the Director and delegates the running of SAMS to the Director and the executive team.
