The Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute (ZFRI) is a national research institute studying deciduous fruit and some cucurbits (watermelon and melon). JKI Geilweilerhofis a public grapevine breeding institute funded by the German Federal Ministry of Nutrition, Agriculture and Consumers Protection. It is in charge of breeding new grapevine cultivars combining high wine quality and fungal disease resistance for sustainable viticulture in Germany. Furthermore, is maintains the German grapevine repository comprising of about 3000 accessions. More than 50 % of the collection consists of genotypes conferring resistances mostly originating from American Vitis species.
