EXPLORE THE DATA ECOSYSTEM

The main innovative aspect lies in interconnection of the main data product line as the cornerstone of a farm software ecosystem and its interaction and interoperability with the use cases. Each use case will develop its own Applications (Apps) incorporating the different data inputs, such as real time meteo data, soil moisture content, tractor fuel consumption, yield data, spectral signatures, as well as manually entered data.

Project is targeting to implement a pilot project to increase animal production and accelerate rural socio-economic development by precision (low input & reduced traffic) fertilization of irregular sloped mountainous pastures by using ICT and automation. Project will create a platform that integrates and harmonizes existing software and hardware technologies into a single system for pasture management.

CowBhave is a novel low-cost open-source automated monitoring system, offered as a free support to the dairy farmers across Europe to:
- Allow for building a basic low-cost open-source automated monitoring system for discrimination of dairy cow behavioural activities.
- Get information of the system accuracy in relation to visual observation of images acquired by multi-camera video-recording systems considered as the ‘golden standard’.

The aim of this project is to demonstrate the advantages of a generic data platform. By means of case studies, we will showcase how existing sensor prototypes can be combined with additional on farm (sensor) data, to build new applications and improve decision support systems. The first case study will focus on grassland based production systems. Grassland based production systems often offer a possibility to use marginal land in LFAs (Less Favoured Area) that could otherwise not be used. The second case study will focus on behavioural monitoring.

Agro-industrial companies face the necessity of acquiring more information and control over their crops and the operations they perform in order to produce them. The challenge lies in reducing the hydric and energy resources they use with the objective of increasing their competitiveness and reducing the impact on the environment. Under the brand name of bynse, our SME cubenube (www.cubenube.com) has developed the first big data solution for agriculture in the world.

S3-CAV focuses on making the ability to perceive the local environment in 3D accessible to farmers transnationally. We devise a sensor framework which we populate with various vision-based and proprioceptive sensors, and combine their real-time input with stored data to provide short-loop safety responses and data sufficient to precisely control an application device in 3D.

This project proposes implementation of precision agriculture technologies and methods in the beekeeping. Precision agriculture approach is adapted for beekeeping based on the various measurements of individual bee colonies all year around thus detecting different states of colonies and apiaries enabling rapid reaction by the beekeeper in case of necessity. Digital measurements such as temperature, humidity, audio and video can be used to detect several states of a bee colony: swarming, broodless stage, brood rearing, illness.

Ignoring the inherited spatial variation in soil properties with traditional sampling methods leads to poor crop management, yield loss and excess use of input. The proposed system of FarmFuse addresses these issues in 2 ways: (a) utilising a new and innovative on-line multi-sensor platform for measuring key soil properties at an appropriate resolution. (b) Integrating this improved soil data with other information such as vehicle-borne sensing of crop growth, weather data, soil conductivity and yield maps, to develop algorithms to determine rules for variable rate application.

The main goal is to optimise the feeding strategy for grazing cattle and to improve the methods of pasture management. An in the frame of the project developed pasture robot and a modified automatic grazing system (AGS) will be integrated into existing herd management software (HMS), providing an optimal feeding strategy for cattle and pasture maintenance. A robot will be redesigned and sensors for detection of biomass, cowpats etc. and actuators, a mulcher and a seeder, will be implemented.
